About our EdTech Badges
Digital badges are awarded to recognise progress in your EdTech professional development, linked to the three stages of the Digital Teaching Professional Framework (DTPF): Exploring, Adopting, Leading. The ultimate aim of the badge award scheme is to build a community of practice in which there is a lively dialogue about teaching practice. This has recently been extended with new badges available for Super Contributors and Reviewers (see below).
Initially, you can gain badges at three levels:
- 1 Star - explore and complete a cluster of modules (available for Exploring, Adopting, Leading stages)
- 2 Stars - submit a reflection on how the module learning has supported you to change your practice and the impact this has had on you and your learners (available for Exploring, Adopting, Leading)
- 3 Stars - upload a resource and reflection that demonstrates how your practice has developed and the impact for both you and your learners (for Adopting & Leading stages only)
The 1 Star badges are available for all categories of modules on the EnhanceDTP. The 2 and 3 Star badges are now available for the Connected and Effective and The Digital Teacher categories of modules, as well as the Accessibility, and the Dealing with Difference and Diversity categories.
If you have a 1 Star badge for any of these four categories of modules, you are ready to start your submission for a 2 Star badge:
- Go to MyLearning > View My EdTech Badges
Once you have a 2 Star badge, if you create and submit a resource with a reflection on its use, you can gain your 3 Star badge.
There are now further badges you can work towards once you have gained 2 and 3 Star badges:
- The Super Contributor's badge will be awarded to practitioners who have engaged in the communities of practice by responding to the contributions of other practitioners.
- The Reviewer's badge will be awarded to those who have been mentored to join the Review and Moderation team and have completed several peer reviews.

FAQ
This is a portable, online badge that:
- can be shared
- is shown as an image
- is issued and certified by an authority, the ETF
They can be:
- used to show progress in your professional development
- shared on social media
- added to your professional profile on LinkedIn
- added as evidence of your professional development
You keep them. In due course as you earn 2 star and 3 star badges, they will be replaced by higher level badges.
At the moment you can only gain 2 and 3 star badges for some categories (Accessibility, Connected & Effective, Dealing with Difference and Diversity, The Digital Teacher). That is because all the modules at all the stages (Exploring, Adopting, Leading) are available for those categories, but other categories will gradually have the full range of modules and you will then be able to get 2 and 3 star badges for those categories as well.
The table below shows where badges are available to work towards within each stage:
Stage | 1 Star badge | 2 Star badge | 3 Star badge |
---|---|---|---|
Exploring | |||
Adopting | |||
Leading |
Stage | 1 Star badge | 2 Star badge | 3 Star badge |
---|---|---|---|
Exploring | Complete the cluster of modules associated with the Exploring Level 1 stage within the category | Must have completed 1 Star badge Share a reflection (75 words) |
|
Adopting | Complete the cluster of learning modules associated with the Adopting Level 1 stage within the category | Must have completed 1 Star badge Post a reflection (250 words) |
Must have completed 2 Star badge Post a resource and an associated reflection on its impact when used with learners (250 words) |
Leading | Complete the cluster of learning modules associated with the Leading Level 1 stage within the category | Must have completed 1 Star badge Post a reflection (500 words) |
Must have completed 2 Star badge Post a resource and an associated reflection on its impact on others (500 words) |
Your submission will be reviewed by two independent members of the ETF's EdTech Review and Moderation Team. This team is made up of practitioners in the sector who have demonstrated subject specialist expertise.
Once you’ve submitted your reflection/resource you will receive written feedback within ten working days and confirmation of the award status.
You will be given written feedback on what you need to do in order to resubmit.
If you don't agree with the Reviewer's decision, you have the opportunity to appeal. Appeals against a decision not to award a badge may be made on serious procedural error on the part of the Moderation panel only.
To simplify your view on your account, as you achieve a badge at higher status it replaces any badge of lower value (e.g. 3 Star replaces a 2 Star badge). Therefore you'll only see three badges, one at each stage: Exploring, Adopting and Leading with the stars representing highest level achieved.
No, you do not. However, there are advantages in completing all the modules within a category; even the most experienced practitioners can still gain new skills and knowledge from the learning modules.
There are further badges you can work towards:
- The Super Contributor's badge will be awarded to practitioners who have engaged in the communities of practice by responding to the contributions of other practitioners.
- The Reviewer's badge will be awarded to those who have been mentored to join the Review and Moderation team and have completed several peer reviews.
