EdTech: Digital problem-solving skills
Digital technologies don't always work as they should - one of the few areas in the controlled environment of education institutions where something failing to do what you expect can be quite normal.
Learners need to move from relying on teachers and technical support staff for solutions to being able to deal with problems for themselves. Developing independence in practical problems is an important life skill and essential for employment.
This module looks at the different types of problems that can arise and the various ways in which learners can resolve them independently - and be encouraged to recognise when it really is best to down tools and seek help.
Aim
This module introduces the basics of supporting learners to solve problems using digital technologies.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Categorise the problems that may arise during learners’ use of digital tools and media
- Define the skillset required by learners to resolve them
- Demonstrate to learners the importance of this skillset for future employment
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - C2 : Supporting study skills
- Identify and solve technical problems when operating devices and using digital environments.
- Adjust and customise digital environments to personal needs.
- Identify, evaluate, select and use digital technologies and possible technological responses to solve a given task or problem.
- Use digital technologies in innovative ways to create learning.
- Understand where a learner's digital competence needs to be improved or updated.
- Support others in their digital competence development.
- Seek opportunities for selfdevelopment and to keep up-to-date with digital evolution.

good course
This section is very clear and with the additional reading section gives the learner a good basic understand how to recognise common PC/IT issues and resolve the issue.
Very interesting.
A basic introduction to understanding the importance of facing up to digital challenges and recognising that digital technologies do not always work as they should.
As a teacher who has been embracing technology within my teaching practice for a number of years, I was already aware of most of this content. However what I did found interesting was the information about supporting students to develop a problem solving mindset. Gave me something to reflect upon.
Make sure everything works before you start the lesson is the key point.
Some good suggestions, but a practical e.g. of what a roleplay or simulation around problem solving might be would have been useful.
Found the activity had contradictory content: video tells you to work out how to solve IT problems yourself and then the answer to activity is phone the IT Help Desk!
I think more could have been shown in tis module , often students don't use the control panel etc. to help them solve the problem

Good module that has made me aware how I can embed IT-related 'unpredictable situations' into my teaching.
I will need to plan this through role plays and simulation and also design a checklist the students
could refer to to enable them to develop a problem-solving mind-set.

I have basic IT Skills that enables me to problem solve an IT issue but I have colleagues and IT support also

Good quality, short and smart interactive contents.
Technology not working seems to be the biggest barrier to adopting digital methods in TLA.
Okay for knowing about problem solving skills and how to address them with the learners.
