EdTech: Creating inclusive content: Principles
This module shows some principles of good practice for creating content that meets the needs of learners with a disability or learning disadvantage.
Aim
This module shows you how the principles of good practice for creating content that meets the needs of learners with a disability hold good in general for all learners: good resources are good for all users.
Objective
After completing this module you will be able to:
- List core principles of good practice for creating resources that meet the needs of all users
- Review your existing content in line with the principles
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - F1 : Accessibility
- Provide equitable access to appropriate digital technologies and resources, e.g. ensuring that all learners have access to the digital technologies used.
- Select and use digital strategies which respond to the learner's digital context, e.g. contextual constraints to their technology use (e.g. availability, institutional restrictions - offender learning, work based learning), competences, expectations, attitudes, misconceptions and misuses.
- Use digital technologies and strategies, e.g. assistive technologies, designed for learners' in need of special support (e.g. learners with physical or mental constraints; learners with learning disorders).
- Consider and respond to potential accessibility issues when selecting, modifying or creating digital resources and to provide alternative or compensatory tools or approaches for learners with special needs.
- Use design principles for increasing accessibility for the resources and digital environments used in teaching.
- Continuously monitor and reflect on the suitability of the measures implemented to improve accessibility and adapt strategies accordingly.

Basic rules for the production of resources, but always worth revisiting as a reminder
Again the reflective activity has made me consider revision techniques which I may be able to use with my learners when they have a reduced timetable to create an online portfolio to support their qualification and learning.
Useful yet again made me reflect on not only what I can improve on but also what I am already instigating. I am going to try and produce voice overs for my google slides to help with online learning delivery.
it does make you think how accessible your tasks are - which is good for everyone.
Interesting. Showing how resources can be adapted ,enhanced to be to be accessible for all
I have thoroughly enjoyed my learning. I like the fact that you have a summary sheet to back up the video and several links for research. Thank you.
Useful principles to be aware of when creating resources
I understand the importance of evolving current learning resources so that all learners are catered for. The principles mentioned in this module are helpful and easy enough to implement in my learning material. I can confidently move forward with improving resources that will benefit all learners, regardless of learning need(s).
This was interesting and will help me in my future practice.
Useful. It would've been great if the module had included examples of how to make a given resource more accessible.
Having an open mind and keeping learning fun makes all the difference when dealing with inclusivity
This is the basis of differentiation
This was quite interesting - subtle changes in thought that could make big impacts.
Simple to the point, succinct yet effective
Interesting insight on creating useful content beneficial to all types of learners.
This module has given me more ideas about to ensure that the content I upload to my VLE is accessible to all learners and therefore inclusive. Some of the suggestions I already put into practice; however, I would like to use audio and visual files in my resources as an alternative to/ supplement text.
Excellent - good principles to be embedded throughout all practice.
Made me reflect on resource layout and complexity.
SOME IDEAS TO START INCORPORATING. THANKS
This module I thought was particularly valuable in its lessons and on reflection find that I do tend to use the steps listed.
This is a useful thought process
The module content is clear, concise and relevant. I need to know more about how to apply in practice to adjust my resources for format, content, assessment and complexity.
I found this really interesting in improving resources and being more thoughtful when producing them
Accessibility of key for effective engagement.
Some good ideas
Helpful suggestions for clearer tasks for a wider number of learers.
I like the idea of making an open space to collect all resources
Nice introduction for the 6 steps, some examples of actual teaching practice would have been nice, especially for those starting out in teaching.
This has made me think more about being inclusive and will definitely look at my teaching practice to vary my learners accessibility when using technology.
A great resource in bite size modules to reflect and improve on the way I develop my digital resources
Add on material is good, but again this needs to be in the body of the course not as an optional extra
This module was moderately useful.
The course was short and straight to the point. It has made me think about future resources I will provide to my learners.
Upload content for learners to comeback to or if they are absent can catch up.
simple activity that enabled an enhanced learning regarding the topic of digital content.
Some very useful ideas given within the course
Help me for when I session plan to use less text and more imagery to get ideas across to students.
Gave me lots to think about
Interesting module and about being clear
Very interesting and and important point that stood out for me here, is that whatever we do to ensure resources/content is accessible for all, is that there are no resources that are equally accessible to all and this is why resources where possible are personalised to individuals depending on needs/capabilities
Escaping text mono-culture and challenging practitioners to produce clear, accessible resources that contribute to scaffolded learning is not impossible
I think that this has re-enforced what I have been doing and now will continue to do so.
A very interesting module with some good advice and guidance. Very useful within my own teaching.
User friendly and informative thanks
Useful module on creating content for all users.
Nice to have clear pointers for improvement.
Inclusive content - In this module I understood the principles of inclusive content. I would like to explore further how to meet individual needs when creating inclusive content and some of the specific needs of individuals.
This was an interesting bitesize module, which encouraged me to be reflective of my own learning styles and the resources I use.
No comment to make.
A very useful and thoughtful module which helped me to reflect overall, on creating inclusive resources and content with further links that would guide me ito help improve my resources.
Sorry but given that accessibility is a legal requirement for all documents and resource4s that are online I would like this module to be a bit more in-depth - or am I missing something?
completed
A good video - but the steps were rushed through so difficult to absorb and take notes.
A really useful module that gives great ideas on how to make resources accessible to as many students as possible.
Very useful resource.
Very helpful - some of this is being done already.
Good points made and a good refresh!
A good reminder!
Interesting. I need to write fifteen words to gain my badge, so this part is nonsense!
This module was clear, effective and good to demonstrate how to best enhance our pedagogy for our learners.
Interesting ideas on differentiating resources to meet differing needs.
Good stuff
Very clear on how to get content across using different means.
I actually found this module really interesting. It was good to have a set of guiding principles to work with and each one enabled me to reflect on how I was using these principles in my practice. A very useful and though provoking module, thank you.
Some interesting ideas that encourage me to look at developing my resources, e.g. using PDFs for wider accessibility is something I hadn't thought about.
Great content
Challenging
Engaging
Excellent module that has made me think about how I present/share information with my learners.
The breakdown of the points to consider when creating content is very effective and practical to follow.
Excellent
Why is there so much text in a training module that specifies we should get away from a text mono-culture?
Good breakdown of necessary requirements for all learners to engage and be challenged when undertaking individual, peer and group activities , offering a wide variety of alternatives to text being far more learner centric and differentiated.
I agree with all the principles of this module.
I have learnt about the different principles.
Really informative module.
Specific and targeted.
Good ideas to think about future work produced a move away from text
Short and sweet, gave me some things to think about.
A lot of the content is not useable in the prison estate
Great unit, inspirational for future development of sessions
A good brief overview of ensuring accessibility for all when creating resources.
i enjoyed learning about the principles, mainly learning about the different teaching styles like adding audio.
This module made me question the concept of whether it is learner’s disability or my own level of digital skills, understanding and experience that is restricting the students learning. I feel this is something I need to reflect on.
This short module explains the 6 core principles that give a starter for your own practice. Simple but effective!
Good idea but the navigation is not really clear or simple.
Very interesting
useful to think about making resources (handouts etc) more accessible and more engaging (less text mono-culture)
