EdTech: Influencing and promoting policy for equitable access
This module looks at how to improve the elements of an organisation's digital technology strategy that relate to accessibility and its significance for bringing about change in teaching and learning practice.
Aim
This module shows you how to influence and promote effective policy for addressing issues of equitable access to digital technology.
Objective
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Review the application and impact of policy for addressing issues in y our own pedagogical practice
- Suggest improvements and changes for the next round of policy making
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - F1 : Accessibility
- Provide equitable access to appropriate digital technologies and resources, e.g. ensuring that all learners have access to the digital technologies used.
- Select and use digital strategies which respond to the learner's digital context, e.g. contextual constraints to their technology use (e.g. availability, institutional restrictions - offender learning, work based learning), competences, expectations, attitudes, misconceptions and misuses.
- Use digital technologies and strategies, e.g. assistive technologies, designed for learners' in need of special support (e.g. learners with physical or mental constraints; learners with learning disorders).
- Consider and respond to potential accessibility issues when selecting, modifying or creating digital resources and to provide alternative or compensatory tools or approaches for learners with special needs.
- Use design principles for increasing accessibility for the resources and digital environments used in teaching.
- Continuously monitor and reflect on the suitability of the measures implemented to improve accessibility and adapt strategies accordingly.

Great!
Access for all.
Useful knowledge given
Importance of collaborative working to implement policies, procedures and working practices
Interesting unit that allows you to see where you need more training. And how Microsoft teams needs all users to at least recognized training.
Very interesting
This is a really good section, I have gone away to find out who is our digital policy team and do tutors know of the implications it can have if not following the guidelines on the content they share whilst teaching clearly.
Sometimes find it hard to put the theory into practice.
More specific examples in the self-assessment task would have been useful.
I absolutely agree with organisations need to develop technology and disability strategies together.
Good module; I am now aware of the 2018 Accessibility Regulations Act and the impact that this has on my teaching and my organisation's digital strategy as well.
A very thought provoking module , thank you.
Interesting to know.
excellent review
Wordy
Some parts of this module are not relevant to our learners who are prisoners
I enjoyed this module, will look at areas to improve and ensure more options are in place
This has highlighted the fact that we are lucky to have such a proactive Learning Technologies manager who is constantly looking at ways to make our courses more accessible and sharing that knowledge with all staff
A useful reminder to review policy/ strategy to check they do all link.
really enjoyed this
informative
This module looks at how to improve the elements of an organisation's digital technology
Found this resource a useful tool for reflection.
Useful reminder, and highlights the need to have in place a Policy for Access to Technology
Lots of information and easy to understand
Very handy hints
Disability issues are something I have tried to raise awareness for along time, with use of technology it should be easier to adapt resources but I feel they should be anticipated and in place, not implemented when the need arises.
Frustrated the I can’t reach the JISC article as it has been archived
useful actions to follow up
Good
very useful i will follow the advice
completed
Again, aimed more at an organisational level but certainly focuses you on considering accessiblity in the future when producing resources. Some things, such as text to sppech sites being used to provide an audio version of text would be reasonably straightforward to implement.
good
Having space to consider how my own teaching and learning embeds the ideas of accessibility, collaboration and inclusivity has enabled me to consider how i might go about utilising technology to enhance access to specific modular learning.
Got me to reflect on the resources I need to continue producing and has reminded what did and didn't work during lock-down.
Good resource
This was a though provoking piece.
I found the resources recommended really helpful in this module.
