EdTech: Supporting special learning needs
This module looks at a broad classification of learning disabilities and the forms of technology that are best suited to overcome the associated challenges to learning.
Aim
This module shows you the characteristics of learning disadvantage and technology that can lower barriers to learning.
Objective
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Describe the characteristics of learning disadvantage
- dentify generic forms of technology-based support that can lower barriers
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - F2 : Equality and diversity
- Address the special needs of individual learners (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, overachievers) using digital technologies
- Allow for different learning pathways, levels and speeds when designing, selecting and implementing digital learning activities.
- Devise individual learning plans and use digital technologies to support these.
- Adapt communication strategies to the specific audience and be aware of cultural and generational diversity in digital environments

good
I have really learnt a lot in this module.
I found this module to be quite useful, interesting and informative. It gave me a unique insight into the various types of technologies available to aid SEN learners.
The course could have explored more accessible programmes for students with SEN needs.
Think about what media is available to help learners best.
Made me think of what different categories can be used
A great unit that covers some of the aspects of SEN learners and the use of ICT to enable better independent learning.
Got this module all right, pleased with myself and that I was able to understand it.
Interesting consideration of the impact of equipment/tools and lack of, which can impact learning
Very useful module.
Very useful some excellent ideas presented.
The main point I took from this module is that each learner is an individual and to put time in to plan and prepare for thier individual challenges.
Highlighted how important it is to have accessible resources for all learners and to remember that text is the least affective.
A great overview - the assessments didn't really link to the learning and the video was very much an overview.
Useful summary of how you can ensure barriers to learning are removed by use of range of learning resources which are accessible and making sure learners are using right technology for their needs.
I am not great with using technology and found this module a little confusing to use as the answers and questions were very close together.
I need more guidance on the difference between hardware and software
Confusing tasks with confusing language.
The scenarios provided a lot of food for thought!
The use of the word 'Normal' at the beginning is disturbing. Not the best start to this module.
Not very enjoyable
A reassuring module , making practitioners aware of the importance in having a diversity/array of tools to ensure accessibility for all learners from the SEND spectrum to maixmise engagement .
Very informative of how technology can be a learners most useful tool.
I understand text is the least useful tool but examples of what to use with limited technology would be useful
helpful
Descriptions are poor and not very clear in the tasks. It needs to be easier to understand what is meant in the tasks.
A good start to learning more about the types of software and hardware that we can use for our students
Interesting module to assist teaching/learning methods using different devices and to assist special needs learners.
Not enough explicitly when dealing with the exercises on the question and answer section. It is not as clear as it seems, and that could be down to the learner, but we are learning and not enough is offered on the examples via the section it explores.
Shows a good understanding of the methods and difficulties of working in SEN but nothing new to someone in that area already.
Makes you thick before putting a teaching aide together
A good reminder that the use of assistive technology is not a one size fits all solution.
good introductory module
This module was useful especially the links to how to support learners.
interesting and useful inforamtion provided in this module thanksyou
Informative
A useful insight into what medium is best used for different educational needs and some ways that teachers can support the use of technology in engaging with learners more.
The video is useful to enable tutors to explore the different ways to engage with learners with a range of needs. The task to to identify the differences between, hardware, software and application, I felt personal was bit confusing and did not really hit the learning outcome. I will have to review this at a later date.
Good module forms of technology that are best suited to overcome the associated challenges to learning.
Quite a lot of information which is good, but can be confusing. The question of Hardware, software and application is OK if you are tech minded, but not helpful.
Informative
Useful, easy to follow. Gave some good information. Would possibly return to this module again
it was a session that required me to put words into boxes using my computer.
I did not find this module useful at all. Are the module writers implying that it is the individual's fault that they cannot access technology s it is more likely the case that perhaps the technology does not yet exist to support lower level or more complex needs students. I did not learn anything from this module but was actually rather insulted by its inferences on behalf of my profoundly disabled young people
its ok
A useful training session that highlights the need for the use of diverse and accessible technologies within the development of learning for students.
