EdTech: Learning for independent living
This module looks at using technology to support the learning activities of SLDD learners who are working towards living independently.
Aim
This module shows you how to design learning to support independent living.
Objective
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Identify the challenges and opportunities for designing learning for independent living
- Employ suitable technology to deliver learning in this context
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - F2 : Equality and diversity
- Address the special needs of individual learners (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, overachievers) using digital technologies
- Allow for different learning pathways, levels and speeds when designing, selecting and implementing digital learning activities.
- Devise individual learning plans and use digital technologies to support these.
- Adapt communication strategies to the specific audience and be aware of cultural and generational diversity in digital environments

I did not find this module to be as interesting or useful as the others.
This is an insightful module to support learners with additional needs who needs to live independently
Audio will help to support learners.
Good examples of outcomes of using technology
Helps you think about learning for independent living.
I can see looking back what I answered right/wrong. it was useful
The use of digital tools and devices to support independent skills and learning i.e. the use of devices such as Alexa to promote independence, independent learning and inclusion
A good module. Scaffolding learning ensures learners don't try complex tasks too soon.
Very informative and lots of tips to make learners independent by using technology.
This module was an useful one.
Interesting module which has made me reflect on learning needs.
This was user friendly and informative
Reminder of how technology can aid learning for independent living
I like this module as it is a new area of instruction for me and I hadn't thought about tech in terms of life skills (as I don't teach them) but it would also work for ESOL learners
This module demonstrated how the likes of Alexa and other smart home apps can assist people living independently.
I agree that learners own devices are key to learning today.
This is a great overview, which could have been done with a lot more detail. I don't think the video enabled me to answer the assessment question. When I got the assessment wrong, I was given no real help as to why I was wrong, so I'm no further with my understanding.
interesting information, showing what we need to keep learning about new technologies to support learning.
A good overview of how technology can be used to support independent living.
The activity on this module was confusing, as I assumed we were required to split the options into two lists of equal number. It would be helpful if it was specified that this was not necessarily the case.
Had good ideas
Technology is moving so fast it is hard to keep up with so many different pieces of software - some of which can have amazing results with learners if carefully managed and implemented . This module reinforced the importance of investigating the value and potential impact to learners .
A little too fast in places and differentiation can be difficult. (Bet use and saved work) An intersting module howevere.
Look forward to putting this in to practice.
The us of small hand held devices are useful when using technology to access learning.
I like the principle that as teachers we can put information and reassurance in accessible formats in the learners’ control through a mobile device such as a smartphone or a tablet. This enables them independence and assist their digital knowledge
Learning to use technology is an ongoing skill that can make peoples lives easier until the technology moves on, or is updated, superseded by new versions that need to be relearnt again. A person only needs to read once to maintain that skill for a life-time. Its a pity that Technology doesn't always follow the 3 click mouse rule for a learner to find anything.
Uesful
Good module
A very interesting module.
Clarity of video is very good. Perhaps the speaker moves a little too fast!
The task to move the sentences into the boxes kept freezing and wouldn't work, so couldn't complete this section. The rest was easy to follow and gave some good basic advice
Always striving for more independent living.
This was enjoyable
A simple module but it has made me think about allowing learners more autonomy in their lives
some great ideas to use with SLDD learners.
There are some really good transferrable ideas on how technology can support learning
Further examples of the use of voice recognition are useful.
Really helpful
intersting what was learning and what was outcome of learning with technology - opposite to
Informative
This was useful, and highlights the need to educate all users in technology to support their everyday. This is something that I will bear in mind as we look to develop an application to support those working in the care sector and their service users.
The resources did demonstrate the impact that modern technology such as recording or taking photos can be used later to develop the learning.
good module working towards living independently.
Very good insight into the technology support for learners
Useful and informative, good, easy to follow, learned a few things, would maybe look at again
Enjoyable
Interesting
very confusing
Some interesting ideas
ok - some people were talking so could not hear all of it
it was ok
Interesting and informative, and I can see the benefit of a "light touch" approach for different learners.
