EdTech: Accommodating different levels of digital skills
The diversity of learners extends to differences in their levels of digital skills, experience and confidence.
This module looks at ways to ensure that our teaching does not disadvantage those with existing low levels of digital skills.
Aim
This module shows you the opportunities and challenges of accommodating different levels of digital skills and confidence in teaching and assessment practice.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Consider the implications of different levels of digital skills and confidence for delivering effective and equitable learning activities
- Identify the characteristics of learning activities that enable learners to succeed with different levels of digital skills and confidence
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - A3 : Support for learning and support activities including initial assessment - empowering learners through technology
- Identify learners' digital skills and confidence, plan appropriate learning activities, assignments and assessments, to provide relevant scaffolding and support for learners with different digital literacy skills.
-
Incorporate learning activities,
assignments and assessments
which encourage and require learners
to
- Articulate information needs, to search for data, information and content in digital environments, to access them and to navigate between them.
- Create and update personal search strategies.
- Adapt search strategies based on the quality of information found.
- Analyse, compare and critically evaluate the credibility and reliability of sources of data, information and digital content.

well presented video
Great topic for tutors and Support to understand.
It looks at learners with low levels of ICT skills.
Very true
This lesson has been learned this year - but it takes time and knowledge to provide low and high tech resources. We need to share those created and evaluate how easy learners find them.
We always assume that our students have excellent digital skills and this is now always the case.
I completely agree with "If a vocational or academic topic is being assessed, learners must be able to achieve full marks using low or no tech solutions."
Interesting and informative.

Good module
It is a good session however it is very much focused on face-to-face learning where remote learning or blended learning is a commonly used method of delivery of learning due to the pandemic as of late.
I would have liked more on exploring ways of facilitating students who do not wish to develop their I.T. skills. This was mentioned in the film and is important - diversity should be accommodated where practicable.
All self-explanatory, could do with more examples of what students could do with low digital skills or technology
An interesting Module that makes you think about the bigger picture. Tutors are encouraged to use technology to deliver session, blended learning, flip learning, but many are reliable on the learners able to use and access digital technology. We need to think about Digital Skills in the same way as literacy skills.
This was very informative
This was a useful module to help improve my understanding of how to accomodate different levels of digitals skills.
Good
Prompted good discussion for further study groups /CPD on using ALS more effectively.
useful information and to be mindful of not to have 'digital overload' lessons
I did find this interesting - however I have already quite a lot of experience in aiming resources and learning to differing digital skills - the health and social care sector is a sector where digital skills may be lower , as it is a hands on job role and little or no use of technology
The module included useful ideas for addressing the differences in digital ability relating to working on and presenting assignments.
Good
Informative
useful reminder to do an initial assessment of digital skills
Thought provoking
great thanks
Thanks
Useful.
Really good, concise information. Hate to be the one to do this but there are some very poor grammatical errors near the end of the module.
Excellent module and one that will definitely change how I approach this area.
thanks
Very subjective in it's approach ways of working and ways of presenting can be very blurred with technologies.
.
This was ok.
