EdTech: Face-to-face learning 2: Using class technology
This module looks at improving learner engagement by rethinking the use of technologies within the classroom.
It examines the possibilities for involving learners actively in sessions, embedded in a carefully structured approach to teaching face-to-face through technology.
Aim
How to improve learner outcomes by effective use of technologies in the classroom.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Identify strategies to improve the impact of technology by effective use of session time and activity
- Engage learners in the creation of learning activity that utilises classroom technology
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - B2 : Teaching context: face-to-face
- Use learning environment technologies to support teaching, e.g. electronic whiteboards, mobile devices.
- Structure sessions so that different (practitioner-led and learner-led) digital activities jointly reinforce the learning objective.
- Structure and manage content, collaboration and interaction in a digital environment.
- Consider how practitioner-led digital interventions can best support the learning objective.
- Reflect on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the digital teaching strategies chosen and flexibly adjust methods and strategies.
- Experiment with and develop new formats and teaching methods (e.g. flipped classroom).

Using a mixture of technology can free up time and motivate learners.
good course
Consideration of synchronous and asynchronous learning
Interesting.
Good
Interesting.
This is useful as a reflective module.
Good module , many thanks
I agree with the fact that the introduction of technology warrants a change in methods of delivery. It's a learning process to get the balance right and see the four M's working effectively.
The correct use of technology in the classroom can speed up learning or make revision easier and more effective.
Excellent demonstration of how this can be utilised in a learning environment. It also explains how the four Ms model can be used to demonstrate better engagement from learners.
Useful to knowledge.
To me the steps required to complete the module are not very intuitive
More explanations around the 4Ms so the result is "Effective use of classroom technology means moving away from using it to present information to making learning active and jointly created."
Useful ideas, but not very helpful when you can't put it into practice due to the IT resources available within the institution.
Nice example within the given context. Would be interesting to explore other contexts. IT teacher in an IT room is a bit non representative of most FE tutors experiences
Thanl you.
Coronavirus has necessitated the re-examination of teaching content to adapt it for online learning. This may well bring about a change in perception as to what should be delivered face-to-face and what online.
Good
Informative module with useful tips for learning effectively with technology.
Not having started delivery yet I will be reflecting and making changes using UPK I have gained from these modules
Good module, I liked the 4 Ms, meet, make learning, measure and memory. Using tech more now due the COV 19 and I have experience a lot of positive online learning from my students.
Sensible and clear
More examples would help.
completed
Works well as long as everybody has their own device.
Some good advice.
using quizzes/polls into online sessions will be a good motivator and monitor of understanding,.
Great information
In a vocational practical lesson l can see the opportunity to use technology is limited. However, l appreciate the relevance of embedding more tech based theory lessons to compliment the way l teach
Static in some viewpoints
The module was useful allowing you to use technology to enhance learner learning.
I wasn't one hundred percent sure on the last question.
Another great yet simple module. Reinforcing previous innovation and process mapping modules - can blame time and get 'lazy' or complacent but there really is a need for these skills to not only support face to face learning but build on employability skills especially in my curriculum area.
Interesting to think of all the ways to utilise technology in the classroom.
This was really useful.
Thought - provoking. Lots of research and practise to do.
Full of suggestions, hints and tips!
