EdTech: Delivering effective learning with technology
The best basis for improving practice is evidence from research. This often just confirms our own experience.
This module looks at metacognitive strategies and considers how technology might support their introduction into learning.
Aim
How to apply educational technology to the emerging understanding of metacognition for effective learning.
Objective
After completing the module, you will be able to:
- Adopt principles of metacognition in the design and delivery of learning
- Apply educational technology to metacognition to deliver effective learning
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - B2 : Teaching context: face-to-face
- Use learning environment technologies to support teaching, e.g. electronic whiteboards, mobile devices.
- Structure sessions so that different (practitioner-led and learner-led) digital activities jointly reinforce the learning objective.
- Structure and manage content, collaboration and interaction in a digital environment.
- Consider how practitioner-led digital interventions can best support the learning objective.
- Reflect on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the digital teaching strategies chosen and flexibly adjust methods and strategies.
- Experiment with and develop new formats and teaching methods (e.g. flipped classroom).

Taking note of your feedback
We greatly appreciate the time taken to provide us with feedback on each module. We regularly review all the feedback provided and use it to inform the development of new modules. Subject to funds being available and other constraints, we will amend existing modules where feedback shows this is required.Feedback from other members about this module
need further learning in cognitive reasoning
A new subject for me, great introduction!
This is a vital skill and is covered well in this module but it can also be supported by assignment rubrics. Metacognition is helped when tutors incorporate elements of it into assignments - eg marks awarded for evidence of planning, for light touch learning journals etc.
Metacognition is NOT the study of the brain's behaviour when under stress. Metacognition involves understanding how our cognitive processes work for us and using that understanding to make our learning more effective.
Question 1 doesn't mention stress yet the answer says under stress. This is really poor and confusing and marking me wrong when in fact it is correct.
Great to see the links to the EEF in here
Good links to research and articles on Metacognition.
Some real world in class/planning examples would be useful.
Metacognition is something all subjects can use.
Good Course
A useful refresher on metacognition and how technology supports this
Interesting and informative.
Good resources on understanding metacognition , many thanks.
An interesting and useful module.
Metacognition activities were though provoking. New terminology learnt.
interesting
Interesting way of looking at modelling learning and how this can be done through technology.
Research shows metacognition is second only to timely feedback as an intervention for improving learning outcomes. This is really interesting to know
Useful module explaining that the use of Metacognitive skills are important for life long learning, self assessment and self evaluation.
A very interesting module, food for thought "Metacognition involves understanding how our cognitive processes work and using that understanding to make our learning more effective."
Wonderful words, although I fail to see how this video improving my teaching anytime soon.
Concepts are very well explained. However, a few more examples of how to use metacognition strategies in class would help.
Good unit
This is a really useful reminder of the importance of developing these skills in learners and provides a clear worked example.
Interesting module reviewing how technologies can be harnessed to better understand how our cognitive processes work and using recordings such as visuals, audios and videos to reflect on how to make our learning more effective.
The activity needs to be reviewed as the first statement does not correspond to the feedback given when submitting.
Interesting starter module
Good introduction to the topic.
Great!
I did not find this Module as easy as I thought, due to distraction in the Office; next time I will do it alone or use headphones as I usually have them on hand but forgot to bring to work today. I really enjoyed learning about Delivering effective learning with Technology I do use but not as often as I would like.
Useful examples of how to apply effective learning using technology
Some great links to further reading. Interesting stuff!
I like psychology so the idea of metacogniton learning using three strategies, planning, monitoring progress and evaluating was quite interesting. What I got from this module was the idea of modelling e.g. when you are say problem solving a technical issue you should speak out loud to the learners exactly what you are doing.
Very interesting topic. Lots to learn and embed.
Reflection on a lesson given and using feedback from learners, peers and managers would seem to be as useful
Good
Metacognition is new to me but does have similarities to reflective practice in Health Social Care Sector I need to read more about it
Effective learning with technology question 1 on the interactive task doesn’t match the answer in the feedback
Thanks for opening another door for me to improve teaching and learning. Metacognitive strategies in teaching are definitely worth digging in deeper. I would like to see more related researches or cases studies.
Very informative and clearly shows how to use metacognition in a classroom setting.
Short video could have been more helpful if there were more examples related to the concept of metacognition.
A good introduction to this subject.
Quite good
very interesting - I did not realise the impact of speaking aloud and the value of metacognition for all!
Quite a deep subject for short module but excellent start
The module was useful allowing you to understand how technology can be used to support learning.
