EdTech: New forms and formats for Blended Learning
A useful definition of Blended Learning is the “combination of face-to-face learning and dynamic digital activities and content that facilitate anytime/anyplace learning.” (Jisc, 2017).
This module follows on from the New forms and formats for face-to-face learning module and looks at the second part of this combination - the contribution to the blend and importance of EdTech outside of face-to-face interactions.
Aim
How to develop new forms and formats of Blended Learning.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Critically review your Blended Learning programme to identify new approaches and perspectives
- Devise new forms and formats for blended learning to improve outcomes
Digital Teaching Professional Framework
This module covers the EdTech component - B3a : Teaching context: blended learning
- Set up learning activities in digital environments, having identified learners' needs for guidance and catering for them.
- Interact with learners in digital environments.
- Digitally monitor learner behaviour and offer guidance when needed.
- Use digital technologies to remotely monitor learner progress and intervene when needed, while allowing for self-regulation.
- Experiment with and develop new forms and formats for offering guidance and support, using digital technologies.

Taking note of your feedback
We greatly appreciate the time taken to provide us with feedback on each module. We regularly review all the feedback provided and use it to inform the development of new modules. Subject to funds being available and other constraints, we will amend existing modules where feedback shows this is required.Feedback from other members about this module
It would be good to have an example, similar to that of the age range that you selected at the beginning. Selecting post 19 learning and then having an example of an early years teacher is not the best example as early years teaching is very different to post 19.
Good module lots to think about & good links listed.
As a new teacher, I found this a useful resource
More blended learning is needed to have a bigger impact on improving the independence of the learners and also encouraging students to think more deeply about tasks and topics.
good course
This module I found easier
Importance of digital teacher and intent, implementation and impact
A quick intro to make your face to face learning more blended and take advantage of tools available to work collaboratively.
I particularly agree with the idea that new forms and formats for blended learning resources and activities are essential to maximise the impact of teaching with digital. Since the pandemic, as educators, we have had to redefine some of our learning interactions and these, in turn, have raised our awareness of new learning spaces and approaches.
Chloe Hinds was inspired by this module and shared a reflection on "Multi-Modal Approaches for FE research". Check it out on our Awarded Practice Wall: https://enhance.etfoundation.co.uk/awardedpractice/view/156/multi-modal-approaches-for-fe-research. #EdTechSWAP
Interesting.
Very thought provoking module , many thanks
A helpful module on blended learning.
Highlights the need for the blended approach and planning of intent, implementation and impact. Having a time to adjust planning to support both online and F2F delivery.
Good module
Great....and I agree with the definition of blended learning!!!
This is a great module, and I think highly valuable to look at in conjunction with the Flipped Learner.
A good introduction to the benefits of blended learning. I disagree with the definition used for blended learning. There is a need for interactive elements, but this can be reproduced online through platforms like Google or Zoom, it does not need to be face to face to work as a blended model.
simple module with ideas of how to use blended learning
Interesting and re enforcing actions taken
Really useful resource for this module https://www.jisc.ac.uk/guides/creating-blended-learning-content
I do not wish to provide feedback at this time. Thank you very much indeed.
The concept is very good although in practice due to time constraints would be difficult to put into practice.
A app aiding in the blended learning experience for learners.
good understanding given
Forgot about SWAY, could be used as a blended learning tool by using video footage of learners , then asking learners to review their own progress.
I hadn't realised Sway could now be used collaboratively - that's a useful tip I learned.
Effective overview
Informative, with good links to expand knowledge.
This is an area i need to explore particularly with the level of learners i teach.
I think this is an important part of some lesson planning, does apply to some of my sessions
Got me thinking how I can improve exiting software usage.
As others have said, an example featuring FE learners would be appreciated.
Good
I am to deliver HCSW Apprenticeship Standards and it as helped me to think about Remote delivery in respect of blended learning
Useful, but not enough information on how to apply the approach. Many practitioners are afraid to try something new, in case it 'all goes wrong'.
Very informative and relevant.
Integrate IT into learning as much as possible.
This module gives an overview of what blended learning should consist of. It is a good basic start for those who need to review the need for online tools and pedagogy to match face-to-face and that they are not separate.
Too much of the video content sounds like a speech to an educational conference. Cut out the buzz words and present, what are real positives in teaching in a more approachable manner!
Good points made and helpful advice to consider
Thanks, lots to think about now.
Clear and concise
very good
This module was interesting and informative.
Works well as long as learners do their part of the flipped learning.
I found this module worth while and got me thinking about the access to technology based resources at college might require some investment with everyone's increased ability and confidence with digital technologies, post lock down.
