EdTech: Managing assessment strategy
Formative assessment is a core part of instruction. It delivers challenge, embeds knowledge and enables learners to measure their own progress and needs; it is a natural candidate for delivery through technology.
Aim
How to achieve an optimal balance of digital and traditional assessment techniques across a programme.
Objective
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Create an assessment strategy to improve the quality of testing and feedback and reduce feedback times
- Balance digital and traditional methods to deliver the best outcomes and experience for learners in both formative and summative assessment
- Use digital assessment tools to monitor the learning process and obtain information on learners' progress.
- Use digital technologies to enhance formative assessment strategies, e.g. using classroom response systems, quizzes, games.
- Use digital technologies to enhance formative and summative assessment in tests, e.g. through computer-based tests, implementing audio or video (e.g. in language learning), using simulations or subject-specific digital technologies as test environments.
- Use digital technologies to scaffold learners' assignments and their assessment, e.g. through ePortfolios.
- Use a variety of digital and non-digital assessment formats and be aware of their benefits and drawbacks.
- Critically reflect on the appropriateness of digital assessment approaches and adapt strategies accordingly.

The use of digital tools for assessment must be considered with care. In subjects like engineering, the student must actually experience using tools and machinery. I agree that there is significant scope for the use of digital assessment especially when theory and safe practice are concerned to name two areas.
Digital assessment is beneficial to the school and students.
That was interesting and the personal summary part made me think how I would use this in practice.
Interesting and informative.
Assessment strategies are vital to ensure learners and teams are clear on how and when to assess
Very useful set of reading resources, good CPD reflective practice -
Did think I would be able to make a model assessment with formative and summative ideas in the unit as an exemplar - Thank you
Clear, snappy but nothing new for me.
